28 сентября в Калифорнии в возрасте 91 года скончался основатель журнала Playboy Хью Хефнер.

«Хью М. Хефнер, икона Америки, который представил журнал Playboy миру в 1953 году и сделал компанию одним из самых узнаваемых американских мировых брендов в истории, ушел из жизни сегодня в результате естественных причин в своем доме, особняке Playboy, в окружении родных и близких», — сообщили на сайте журнала Playboy.

По данным Bloomberg, Хефнер завещал похоронить его рядом с могилой актрисы Мэрилин Монро.

Хью Марстон Хефнер родился 9 апреля 1926 года в Чикаго.

С 1944 года, во время Второй Мировой Войны, он был корреспондентом военной газеты. Позже Хефнер работал корреспондентом журнала Esquire, из которого в 1952 году уволился из-за того, что руководство отказалось повысить ему зарплату на пять долларов.

Как он сам рассказывал, оставшись без работы, Хефнер взял в банке кредит в размере 600 долларов и еще 8000 долларов у знакомых и основал журнал Playboy. В 1955 году Хефнер опубликовал в Playboy рассказ Чарльза Бомонта о попавшем в мир гомосексуалов гетеросексуальном мужчине, что вызвало широкий резонанс и возмущение общественности.

В 1963 году основателя Playboy арестовали за публикацию непристойной литературы, однако позже присяжные оправдали его.

В 70-е года Хефнер приобрел легендарную резиденцию в Лос-Анджелесе, которая получила название «Особняк Playboy». Резиденция славилась своими вечеринками, в которых участвовали модели журнала, а также голливудские звезды.

Хефнер был сторонником Демократической партии, в связи с чем в 2012 году открыто поддерживал президента США Барака Обмамы во время его избирательной кампании.

Кроме того, он жертвовал средства в поддержку борьбы с цензурой в кино, а также учредил грант для студентов, учащихся на связанных с киноиндустрией факультетах. Также Хефнер неоднократно выступал за легализацию однополых браков.

Хефнер был трижды официально женат. С первой женой Милдред Уильямс Хефнер он прожил 10 лет, до 1959 года. От этого брака у него есть дочь Кристи и сын Дэвид.

После развода у Хефнеа было большое количество романов с моделями своего журнала и другими женщинами.

Второй раз основатель Playboy женился только спустя 30 лет. Новой избранницей стала модель журнала Кимберли Конрад, которая родила Хефнеру сыновей Марстона Гленна и Купера Бредфорда. Однако этот брак тоже закончился расставанием — пара развелась в 2010 году.

В 2013 году 88-летний Хефнер женился на 26-летней модели Кристал Харрис, которая осталась с ним до конца его жизни. Уже сейчас известно, что, согласно брачному договору,  она получит в наследство только те ценные вещи, которые супруг подарил ей при жизни.
