9 мая в центре Москвы прошла акция «Бессмертный полк», в ходе которой участники с портретами своих родственников, воевавших во время Великой Отечественной Войны,  прошли от станции метро «Динамо» до Красной площади. По данным МВД, в акции приняли участие 700 тысяч человек.

К шествию также присоединился президент России Владимир Путин, который нес в руках изображение своего отца. По словам президента, в этом году он не планировал участвовать в акции, однако в последний момент передумал.
