До 20 лет тюрьмы грозит 37-летнему Рамону Олорунва Аббасу, известному в Instagram под ником hushpuppi, за кибермошенничество и отмывание денег. ФБР считает, что он мог являться лидером преступной организации, которая обманным путем получала миллионы от разных компаний. Стремление Аббасу к позерству и аккаунты в соцсетях помогли федералам вычислить его, сообщает CNN.

В ходе расследования сотрудники ФБР получили доступ к указанной Аббасом информации для регистрации в соцсетях, а также к перепискам. В них удалось найти его банковские и паспортные данные. Указанные при регистрации адреса и телефоны также совпадали. Даже пост по случаю дня рождения сыграл федералам на руку — так они смогли подтвердить дату рождения Аббаса.

Всего по делу было задержано 12 человек. Полицией конфисковано 41 млн долларов, 13 автомобилей стоимостью около 6,8 мнл долларов, а также техника и 2 млн адресов предполагаемых жертв группировки. 

Преступники отслеживали переписку той или иной компании, затем, когда между сторонами заходил разговор о передаче денег, мошенники «вклинивались» по принципу «фишинга» и отправляли свои реквизиты. В результате средства компаний уходили на счета Аббаса.

Основным направлением, по которому работали мошенники, оказалась Западная Африка. Тем не менее на достигнутом они не собирались останавливаться — известно, что группа пыталась украсть 124 млн долларов, принадлежащих Английской футбольной лиге. Насколько успешной была попытка — пока не сообщается.

Сейчас любитель роскоши Рамон Аббас находится в США, куда был «выслан» из Дубая. Слушание по его делу запланировано на 13 июля. Адвокаты Аббаса обвиняют ФБР в том, что его сотрудники похитили их клиента.

В его Instagram более 2,5 млн подписчиков. Им Аббас представлялся как девелоппер по недвижимости и с удовольствием делился снимками, где он запечатлен в дизайнерских обновках, у частного самолета или роскошного автомобиля. 

Судя по его аккаунту, Аббас считал себя большим модником. На этом фото, например, он предстал перед объективом камеры в пальто, брюках и лоферах Gucci, с сумкой Hermes Birkin. Одна только сумка обошлась Аббасу не менее чем в 15 тыс. долларов.
